Mennitti LV et. al. (April 2024). Maternal dietary fatty acid composition and content prior to and during pregnancy and lactation influences serum profile, liver phenotype and hepatic miRNA expression in young male and female offspring J Nutr Biochem. :109639.
This study investigated the effects of maternal dietary fat composition on offspring health. Female rats were fed control or high-fat diets before and during pregnancy and lactation. Offspring showed impaired glucose tolerance, increased adiposity, and disrupted lipid profiles. Shifting to a normolipidic diet improved offspring health but did not fully reverse glucose intolerance. These findings highlight the importance of maternal diet in programming offspring health.

Bai Y et. al. (April 2024). Engagement of N6-methyladenisine methylation of Gng4 mRNA in astrocyte dysfunction regulated by CircHECW2 Acta Pharm Sin B. 14(4):1644-1660.
In this study, researchers investigated the role of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation in astrocyte dysfunction associated with major depressive disorder (MDD). They found that levels of the circular RNA HECW2 (circHECW2) were elevated in both MDD patients and a mouse model of chronic unpredictable stress (CUS). Lowering circHECW2 levels reduced astrocyte dysfunction and depression-like behaviors induced by CUS. This effect was linked to increased expression of the methylase WTAP, leading to enhanced m6A modification and increased expression of Gng4 mRNA. These findings suggest that circHECW2 may be a potential target for MDD treatment.

Zhang X et. al. (April 2024). Ginger inhibits the invasion of ovarian cancer cells SKOV3 through CLDN7, CLDN11 and CD274 m6A methylation modifications BMC Complement Med Ther. 24(1):145.
In this study, researchers explored the inhibitory effects of ginger on the invasion of ovarian cancer cells (SKOV3) and the underlying molecular mechanisms. They found that ginger reduced the levels of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) in SKOV3 cells. MeRIP-seq analysis revealed that the 3'UTR region is a major site of m6A modification, with key molecular activities related to cell adhesion molecules. Ginger downregulated the expression of CLDN7 and CLDN11 mRNA and protein, leading to the inhibition of SKOV3 cell invasion. These findings suggest that ginger may inhibit ovarian cancer cell invasion by regulating m6A methylation of CLDN7 and CLDN11.

Chen Z et. al. (April 2024). METTL3 mediates SOX5 m6A methylation in bronchial epithelial cells to attenuate Th2 cell differentiation in T2 asthma Heliyon. 10(7):e28884.
The article investigated the role of METTL3 and SOX5 in type 2 asthma (T2 asthma). They found that patients with T2 asthma had lower METTL3 levels, which correlated with higher Th2 cell levels and more severe symptoms. METTL3 overexpression reduced Th2 cell differentiation and increased m6A methylation. METTL3 negatively regulated SOX5 through m6A modification, and high SOX5 levels were associated with more severe T2 asthma. These findings suggest that METTL3 attenuates Th2 cell differentiation in T2 asthma by regulating SOX5 m6A methylation, indicating a potential target for T2 asthma treatment.

Liu L et. al. (April 2024). YBX1 Promotes Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Progression via m5C‐Dependent SMOX mRNA Stabilization Adv Sci (Weinh). :e2302379.
In this study, researchers found that Y-box-binding protein 1 (YBX1) is upregulated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and promotes ESCC progression by stabilizing spermine oxidase (SMOX) mRNA through m5C modification. YBX1 enhances ESCC cell proliferation and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo, suggesting that targeting YBX1 or its downstream targets like SMOX could be a promising therapeutic approach for ESCC.

Hua W et. al. (April 2024). Transgenerational Effects of Arsenic Exposure on Learning and Memory in Rats: Crosstalk between Arsenic Methylation, Hippocampal Metabolism, and Histone Modifications Environ Sci Technol.
In this study, researchers investigated the effects of arsenic exposure on learning and memory in rats and explored the underlying epigenetic mechanisms. They found that arsenic exposure impaired learning and memory abilities and downregulated cognition-related genes in the hippocampus. Arsenic methylation and altered hippocampal metabolism were associated with changes in histone modifications, specifically attenuating H3K4me1/2/3 and H3K4ac while enhancing H3K9me1/2/3, leading to cognitive impairment. Paternal arsenic exposure also induced transgenerational effects on learning and memory, suggesting a potential risk of neurological deficits in offspring.
