EpiGentek’s ELISA-based assay service for global 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) quantification measures total genome-wide hydroxymethylated cytosine levels in DNA. This method is highly specific, separately detecting 5-hydroxymethylcytosine with no cross-reactivity to methylcytosine and unmethylated cytosine. By measuring global DNA hydroxymethylation status, researchers can investigate the distribution of this base (5-hmC) in various cell types and in different areas of the mammalian genome. Being able to identify hydroxymethylation status in human cells/tissues is particularly important when comparing diseased and healthy cells.
