BackgroundSMARCD3 is a subunit of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex. The SWI/SNF family members are known to display helicase and ATPase activities and regulate transcription of certain genes by altering chromatin structure. The encoded protein is part of the large ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI and has sequence resemblance to the yeast Swp73 protein. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified for this gene, but some of the variants have not yet been validated.
