BackgroundGATAD2A (GATA zinc finger domain containing protein 2A), also known as Transcriptional repressor p66 alpha, is a transcriptional repressor that enhances repression mediated by MBD2 (methyl-CpG binding domain protein 2). For efficient repression by GATAD2A, the presence of GATAD2B is necessary. The transcriptional repressor p66-alpha protein binds MBD2 (methyl-CpG binding domain protein 2) and MBD3 (methyl-CpG binding domain protein 3) and requires interaction with MBD2 for targeting to the chromatin and for efficient repression. The protein also interacts with histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 and histone acetylation has been shown to reduce this interaction.
