BackgroundEP400, also known as E1A binding protein p400, is part of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex which plays a role in transcriptional activation of certain genes by acetylating histone H4 and H2A. This histone modification is thought to alter the interactions between nucleosomes and DNA as well as promote the interaction of the modified histones with various proteins that regulate transcription. It may be involved in cellular proliferation by transcriptionally activating E2F1 and MYC target genes. It is also thought that it may regulate transcription activity of ZNF42.
