BackgroundCBX4, or Chromobox protein homolog 4, is part of the polycomb group (PcG) proteins, specifically polycomb repressive complex I. CBX4 acts as a transcriptional suppressor and is a facilitator of SUMO1 conjugation. In addition, it is a candidate of KyoT2-binding proteins and is directly implicated in the cellular mechanisms that occur in response to DNA damage.
