BackgroundPRMTs (Protein Arginine N-Methyltransferases) can monomethylate or dimethylate arginine residues by transferring methyl groups from S-adenoxylmethionine to the guanidine nitrogen of arginine. PRMT3, known as Protein Arginine N-Methyltransferase 3, is involved in the maturation of the ribosome 80S and acts on 40S (eukaryotic small ribosomal subunit) rpS2 (ribosomal protein S2). Overall, PRMT3 acts at the cellular level of the subunits of ribosomes, which read RNA.
