Located in mitochondrial inner membrane. Part of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex IV. Is expressed in several structures, including brown fat; heart; liver; metanephros; and skeletal muscle. Orthologous to human MT-CO1 (mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase I).
