Researchers studied how high estrogen levels during ovarian stimulation in assisted reproductive technology affect DNA methylation in mouse oocytes. They found that too much estrogen reduced 5mC methylation and increased 5hmC methylation in oocytes and embryonic stem cells. This abnormal methylation pattern affected a gene important for placental development, suggesting risks for assisted reproduction procedures.

Researchers discovered that in insects infected with rice stripe virus (RSV), a key gene involved in nucleotide metabolism, LsIMPDH, is regulated by chemical modification N6-methyladenosine (m6A) on its mRNA. This modification reduces the enzyme's activity, limiting the production of a necessary nucleotide, which in turn limits the virus's ability to replicate in its insect vector. This finding suggests a potential target for controlling viral transmission in insects.
