BackgroundThis gene produces a protein featuring a single SAP domain, which binds to cruciform and superhelical DNA, introducing positive supercoils into circular DNA. It additionally plays a role in splice site selection during mRNA processing. Chromosomal abnormalities, elevated gene expression, and the existence of antibodies against this protein are linked to diverse diseases. Two transcript variants, coding for distinct isoforms, have been identified for this gene.
