BackgroundChromobox homolog 8 (CBX8) is one of the proteins homologous to the polycomb group (PcG) proteins. The polycomb group (PcG) proteins are essential for assembling to form large multiprotein complexes involved in gene silencing, where changes in expression of PcG proteins have been associated with cancer. CBX8 is involved in maintaining the transcriptionally repressive state of these genes.
