In this study, the researchers investigated the role of ATPase Inhibitory Factor 1 (IF1) in mitochondrial function and tissue homeostasis using a conditional IF1-knockout mouse model in intestinal epithelium. Liu W et. al. (July 2023). m6A‑mediated LINC02038 inhibits colorectal cancer progression via regulation of the FAM172A/PI3K/AKT pathway via competitive binding with miR‑552‑5p Int J Oncol. 63(1)
In this study, researchers investigated the role of LINC02038, a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), in colorectal cancer (CRC) progression. They found that LINC02038 acts as a sponge for miR-552-5p, inhibiting the degradation of the target gene FAM172A and suppressing CRC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. They also uncovered the regulatory role of m6A modification in LINC02038 stability through YTHDF2, suggesting that the m6A/LINC02038/miR-552-5p/FAM172A axis may serve as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker for CRC.

Guo S et. al. (June 2023). METTL3 Affects Spinal Cord Neuronal Apoptosis by Regulating Bcl-2 m6A Modifications After Spinal Cord Injury Neurospine. 20(2):623-636.
This study investigates the role of METTL3, an m6A methyltransferase enzyme, in spinal cord injury (SCI). The findings suggest that inhibition of METTL3 activity or expression can reduce spinal cord neuronal apoptosis after SCI by modulating the m6A/Bcl-2 signaling pathway, leading to improved neuronal viability.

Wang W et. al. (July 2023). FTO-dependent m6A regulates muscle fiber remodeling in an NFATC1-YTHDF2 dependent manner Clin Epigenetics. 15(1):109.
This study investigates the role of FTO in muscle fiber remodeling, specifically in maintaining slow-twitch fibers. This study identifies CDK1 as a critical factor contributing to oxaliplatin resistance in colorectal cancer (CRC) through the regulation of ACSL4-mediated ferroptosis. Inhibition of CDK1 restores the sensitivity of CRC cells to oxaliplatin by promoting ferroptosis, suggesting that targeting CDK1 may be a promising therapeutic approach for oxaliplatin-resistant CRC patients.

Krishnamoorthy HS et. al. (July 2023). Dysregulated m6A methylation modification is associated with human peri-implantitis - A pilot study J Stomatol Oral Maxillofac Surg. :101550.
This pilot study reveals that dysregulated N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification, specifically mediated by METTL3, is associated with peri-implantitis, suggesting its involvement in the pathogenesis of this inflammatory disease. The increased levels of m6A RNA methylation and METTL3 expression in peri-implantitis patients indicate a potential role for m6A modification as a risk factor for peri-implantitis.

Guo F et. al. (June 2023). Levels and clinical significance of the m6A methyltransferase METTL14 in patients with coronary heart disease Front Cardiovasc Med. 10:1167132.
This study found that methyltransferase-like protein 14 (METTL14) expression is elevated in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and is positively associated with inflammatory markers. METTL14 levels were identified as an independent predictor of CHD risk, highlighting its potential clinical significance in assessing and managing CHD.
