Background SET7, also known as SET 7/9, is a histone methyltransferase that specifically methylates histone H3 Lys4 (H3K4) and contains a SET domain. It acts on several non-histone as well as histone targets such as TAF10, histone H3, p53, and estrogen receptor alpha. SET7 is implicated in numerous human diseases due to its broad substrate specificity and researchers use SET7/9 as a model for investigating the mechanism of SET domain histone methyltransferases.
