BackgroundPHF2 is an amino acid protein that belongs to the PHD finger family of proteins which are known to function as transcriptional regulators that affect gene expression by modulating chromatin structure. PHF2 localizes to the nucleus in a variety of tissue and contains one PHD-type zinc finger and one Jumonji C (JmjC) domain. PHF2 is a candidate gene for hereditary sensory neuropathy type I (HSN1). Alternative splicing allows PHF2 to exist as two isoforms.
