|Epigentek Offers a Complete Kit Series for Quantifying Both Global DNA Methylation and Hydroxymethylation
|NEW YORK, Sep 2 - Epigentek Group Inc. announced today that it released two more products in its MethylFlash(TM) series to complete its line of kits for studying global DNA methylation. These two new MethylFlash(TM) Methylated DNA Quantification Kits are based on a new method for quantifying global DNA methylation; one is for a colorimetric procedure and the other is for a fluorometric procedure. The method enables background signals to be extremely low which eliminates the need for plate drying and blocking, allowing the kits to become more simple and convenient to use.
These kits can be used for quantifying methylated DNA in a high throughput microplate format using DNA samples from any species including mammals, plants, fungi, bacteria, and viruses, and are also optimized for paired use with the MethylFlash(TM) Hydroxymethylated DNA Quantification Kits (first launched back in late June) for simultaneously quantifying both methylated and hydroxymethylated DNA.

It is particularly important to identify the true status of epigenetic change at the DNA level in diseased human cell/tissues -- is it methylation or hydroxymethylation? Because the true status of global DNA methylation can only be determined when 5-hmC is accurately distinguished from 5-mC, the MethylFlash(TM) kits have significant importance by identifying, distinguishing, and quantifying both global DNA methylation (5-mC) and hydroxymethylation (5-hmC).
