BackgroundJMJD1C (jumonji domain containing 1C) is a nuclear protein that is expressed in a variety of tissue. It can demethylate lysine-9 of histone H3, thus plays a role in the histone code and participates in transcriptional regulation. JMJD1C can also regulate cell growth during development and in chromatin regulation. It has been associated with certain types of autism. Two distinct isoforms exist as a result of alternative splicing.
