BackgroundEPC1, also known as Enhancer of Polycomb Homolog 1, is a part of the polycomb group (PcG) family and component of the NuA5 histone acetyltransferase complex that plays a role in transcriptional activation via acetylation of nucleosomal histones H4 and H2A. EPC1 has been shown to act as a transcriptional repressor as well as a transcriptional activator. Various processes are linked to the encoded protein, such as DNA repair, apoptosis, gene silencing, differentiation of skeletal muscle, and adult T-cell leukemia or lymphoma.
