BackgroundASH2L is the mammalian homolog of Drosophila Ash2 and a core component of a multimeric histone methyltransferase (HMT) protein complex. HMT complexes modulate transcription by catalyzing the methylation of arginine or lysine residues of N-terminal tails of core histones. ASH2L is believed to function as a transcriptional regulator and has been linked to leukemia and hematopoiesis. Alternative splicing isoforms exist for this gene.
