BackgroundPRMT4 (Protein Arginine N-Methyltransferase 4), also known as CARM1 (coactivator-associated arginine methyltransferase 1), is a part of the PRMT family that can monomethylate or dimethylate arginine residues by transferring methyl groups from S-adenoxylmethionine to the guanidine nitrogen of arginine. PRMT4 has been shown to catalyze methylation at histone H3 Arg-17 (H3R17) and Histone 3 Arg-26 (H3R26).
