BackgroundCTBP2 (C-terminal-binding protein 2) is a protein coding gene. This gene can generate alternative transcripts encoding two separate proteins. One isoform is a transcriptional repressor and the other is a component of synaptic ribbons. These two proteins have a NAD+ binding domain comparable to NAD+-dependent 2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenases. This gene was mapped to chromosome 21q21. 3 using a portion of the 3' untranslated region; however, it is likely that CTBP2 may be found in other parts of the genome. This gene has been identified on chromosome10 using a BLAST analysis. Multiple transcript variants encoding two different isoforms exist for this gene.
