Silencing by methylated DNA has been shown to occur when methyl-CpG-binding proteins (MeCP) recruit histone deacetylase complexes. The MeCP1 (methyl-CpG-binding protein 1) complex includes the zinc finger-containing protein known as p66. The p66a polyclonal antibody detects p66a, which is thought to play a role in transcription repression.
