BackgroundACRP30 (adipocyte complement-related protein of 30kD) is a fat-derived secreted protein that is expressed only in adipose tissue. It is believed to be involved in lipid metabolism and glucose homeostasis. ACRP30 encodes a protein comparable to collagens X, VIII and the collagen-like complement factor C1q. Modifications in this gene have been linked to adiponectin deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein exists for this gene.
